Embedded in the calming surrounds of Margaret River, this multigenerational home takes its cues from the coastal landscape around it. Driven by the clients' active lifestyle, the layout stays porous throughout, fusing indoor and outdoor settings so the whole house reads as one connected, easy-breathing whole.

At its heart is a central hub where the family gathers, a warming fireplace, a generous lounge, a family dining area. Overlooking garden and coast, the home connects its occupants to Margaret River's hardy bushland and rugged coastline, inspiring an eclectic, textural approach to materials, buoyed by the clients' love of rich colour. Earthy stone, local timber, hand-glazed tiles, concrete and terrazzo sit together across the house, deliberately at odds with the whitewashed, bleached-timber language of typical beachfront properties.

Cabinetry is treated as freestanding furniture, while decorative pieces and lighting were sourced from local artisans, lending the interiors a strong narrative of place. Warm timber and mixed stone build a luxurious base, softened by sheer drapery and lifted by clay, blush and olive accents that quietly riff on the surrounding landscape, while more robust, utilitarian finishes in the family's everyday spaces withstand the knocks of real life.

The result is a home away from home in the truest sense - spacious enough to spread out and make a mess, intimate enough to gather as one family, and calm enough, at day's end, to retreat and simply be together.
