Tamarama House

Working against a breath-taking ocean backdrop, we created this sophisticated city-meets-beach home for a family of four.

It’s difficult to be anything but a backseat driver to the spectacular views across Tamarama from almost all rooms in this house. Our challenge was to devise theatre and drama within the interiors that would support, rather than compete with the setting. By using a high-contrast, monochromatic base palette, we created pockets of moodiness throughout the home to inspire a natural balance and an important respite from the lightness outside.

Each of the sleeping and bathing spaces are completely individual and saw the involvement of all family members to select colours and finishes. Key pieces of art from the clients’ collection offered inspiration for the furniture, lighting and soft furnishings throughout the living spaces.

The result is a home that moves fluidly from smart-casual by day into cocktail party by evening.
